600 + Lincolnshire

Just reached 616 species the other day a few moths now being recorded with Epiblema cirsiana being the best that I have just dissected potted up from Common Knapweed possibly a Lincolnshire first. I have calculated that all my species records are from only 1% of the square as the rest is arable farmland with little hedging and verges.
The challenge has probably stopped my bird twitching habits as I stayed looking in the square rather that travel for the Dusky Thrush and Pacific Swift that has recently turned up.

  1. Hi Martin. Epiblema cirsiana reminds me of a large headache last year trying to separate from the gen plate of scutulana. In the end I have lumped them together as one species. If they are indeed separate the Knapweed will surely help support. My specimen last year was rudely swiped from the air as it went about it's business so no clues for me. If you know of a difference I still have the slide somewhere, it's a male.
    Cheers, Paul

  2. Hi Paul,
This group are a nightmare, it is a female which looks good for cirsiana I have stuck my neck out it is this. I have done a plate and photo and hope to get confirmation from one of the experts. As you have said it was on Common Knapweed and there was loads of it.
